BCTC Filmmaking Certificate Program Graduate on set with Woody Harrelson
(This program has really taken off and all of the students I know that have signed up for it, rave about their experience learning from actual filmmakers. Two ongoing projects I know of that have grown out the program are Ben Burke's "Torn and Restored" Lexington film collective--you can find them on myspace--and a regular sunday meeting at Common Grounds of scriptwriters/filmmakers. Forwarded message from the director of the program, Arthur Rouse.)
BCTC Filmmaking Certificate Program Graduate on set with Woody Harrelson
Lexington, KY: Steven ‘Norm’ Mathews, a graduate of the Filmmaking Certificate Program at Bluegrass Community and Technical College was recently a production assistant on the set of a Woody Harrelson short being shot in Kentucky. ( reported here)
Mathews graduated from BCTC’s Filmmaking Certificate Program in December 2007 and is now freelancing on film projects in Kentucky while looking for opportunity in California.
After working as Art Director on the locally produced film “Blink,” Mathews enrolled in the BCTC Filmmaking Certificate Program to gain a better understanding of the collaborative nature of filmmaking and for hands-on experience across all production disciplines from script to screen.
The BCTC program director, Arthur Rouse is a partner in the Kentucky Film Lab (www.kyfilmlab.com). Both organizations are working to increase the focus on the cinematic arts in Kentucky and to expand and improve the quality of the filmmaking workforce in the state. Rouse commented on developing Kentucky’s filmmaking workforce saying, “Students coming out of the Kentucky Film Lab workshops and the BCTC Filmmaking Certificate Program are ready to help grow the cinematic arts community in Kentucky. They have the skill and motivation to make things happen in state and also to connect with the industry worldwide. Recent BCTC graduates are creating their own films here in Kentucky, working on films in Missouri, attending film schools in Florida and working for filmmakers in Kentucky and beyond. We hope to see everybody active in this growing industry.”
